I love the winter, but as the seasons begin to change you may start to notice that your skin might feel a little different. As soon as I feel that first chill in the air my skin feels less oily and can start to look a little dehydrated. Since its commonplace to switch up our wardrobe when the weather begins to turn isn’t it worth switching up our skincare too?

1. Switch up your skincare routine in the winter

One of the easiest things to switch up in your skincare routine in the winter is your moisturiser. I tend to favour the light, oil free kind in the summer but as soon as autumn rolls around I like to give my skin a little bit of extra TLC and that usually comes in the form of a face oil. If you are oily and acne-prone using an oil on your face my seem somewhat counter-intuitive but fear not some oils such as jojoba and rose oil work wonders at calming blemishes and can actually make your skin less oily! Oils are also great at preventing water-loss from the skin meaning it stays looking plump and glowing even when that winter chill kicks in.

2. Use a humidifier, say what!?

Now I know this next tip may seem a bit out of the ordinary but trust me it works! When you’re constantly going in and out from cold to hot it wreaks havoc on your skin. Think breakouts, sensitivity and red, inflamed skin. Not ideal. So to give skin some much needed relief I love using a humidifier. What a humidifier does is add moisture to the air helping to prevent dryness and irritation. Humidifiers are particularly effective for treating dry skin, soothing rosacea and also help to ward off common cold and flu symptoms. After sleeping with one for a couple of nights I notice a significant improvement in my skin and a noticeable bounciness. With one of these babies you can keep that J-Lo glow going year round.

3. The magic, Hyaluronic Acid

One of my favourite ingredients for ensuring my skin stays looking in tip top condition year round is Hyaluronic acid. The reason why I love it particularly in the winter is because it has the ability to hold up to ten times its weight in water. That means it is great at retaining water in the skin cells and stops water loss from the skin throughout the day. The result? Dewy, plump, youthful looking skin. Hyaluronic acid is especially brilliant for those of you who suffer with dehydrated skin or are starting to notice any fine lines as it helps to plump and smooth. My favourite way and one of the most efficient ways to incorporate Hyaluronic acid in to your routine is by using a hydrating serum.

4. The final touch

If you want to add a little extra oomph to your skin why not fake it till you make it by adding a light reflecting lotion or primer either on its own or before applying makeup. This is a quick fix to really amp up your skins luminosity and helps you to look extra glowy and healthy in the sometimes-gloomy weather!
