Jaclyn Cosmetics shuts down completely

Jaclyn Hill’s makeup venture, Jaclyn Cosmetics, is bidding adieu after a stint of less than five years in the beauty industry. The influential beauty personality announced on Instagram that the company, under the ownership of Forma Brands, is closing its doors “for the foreseeable future.”

Addressing her followers on January 1, Hill acknowledged the ongoing speculation, expressing gratitude for the pivotal role Jaclyn Cosmetics played in her journey. She emphasized the brand’s significance in her life but conveyed her readiness to bring this chapter to a close.

“I want to thank each and every one of you for the support and love you have shown me. You let this girl dream, and that is what I did. I still have those dreams, but to properly pursue them, I am going to need time and patience to do so,” Hill shared.

Acknowledging Ulta, a prominent beauty stockist, Hill extended her appreciation for their continuous belief in her, support for her brand, and future endeavors.

Jaclyn Cosmetics’ parent company, Forma Brands, navigated a tumultuous 2023. After entering bankruptcy, the US cosmetics company underwent acquisition by lenders and additional investors in April 2023. Forma Brands, also holding ownership of Morphe, later sold off assets of Ariana Grande’s r.e.m. beauty to the singer for US$15 million.

Speculations about Jaclyn Cosmetics shutting down gained traction following the closure of Hill’s jewelry and apparel brands, Jaclyn Roxanne and Koze, in August 2023. In a YouTube video addressing the closures, Hill admitted to not nurturing Jaclyn Cosmetics properly since its challenging debut in 2019.

“I have not given that relationship the love that it deserves because I just felt like such a failure,” she expressed in the video.

Jaclyn Cosmetics faced a rocky start in May 2019, with complaints flooding in from consumers who accused the brand’s nude lipsticks of being moldy and hairy. Hill initiated a product recall in August 2019, addressing quality issues and providing refunds to customers. The makeup line eventually relaunched three months later.

Hill, who began her career as a MAC Cosmetics makeup artist and beauty YouTuber, had previously collaborated with Becca Cosmetics and Morphe on limited edition collections before venturing into Jaclyn Cosmetics.
